About Kelp & Scotia Kelp
Kelp is a type of brown algae that grows in beds in the ocean. Although there are different species of kelp, Scotia Kelp exclusively uses Laminaria Digitata, or Oarweed, for our kelp products.
Kelp contains a huge range of micro- and macronutrients and trace elements. These include calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, and iodine, omega 3 and 6, the compounds fucoidan and humectin, as well as vitamins such as A, C, E and B complex.
Kelp is naturally nourishing, soothing, and moisturizing. With regular use, it can help to improve skin elasticity, help reduce irritation, and speed healing. Kelp-based plant food can also support plant health and help improve soil nutrition.
It depends on the application:
- For plant owners we recommend using our plant food with your regular watering schedule.
- We recommend applying our Natural Full Body Spray daily (if you have thyroid problems, consult your healthcare practitioner before using our products).
- We recommend applying our pet mist to the entire coat once daily, with a second localized application for cuts, scrapes, and other problem areas (our pet mist is not recommended for cats with a history of thyroid issues. Consult your vet before using).
During storms and rough weather, kelp detaches from the underwater beds where it grows and is deposited onshore. We collect the storm-tossed kelp by hand. This allows us to collect plenty of fresh, high quality kelp without disturbing the kelp beds.
"Seaweed" is a general term that can be used to describe thousands of different species of marine algae. Sea kelp is officially designated as one type of brown seaweed.
Our pet spray was tested on animals once the formulation was complete. Our products are non-toxic, and tests were completed to ensure product efficacy only.

Plant Care
Regular application of kelp extract provides plants with over 65 bioavailable nutrients. It can help improve plant health, increase soil quality, and make plants more resilient to a range of environmental stressors.
Our Natural Home and Garden Plant Food provides plants with a complete spectrum of nutrients. By contrast, fertilizers tend to focus on boosting just a few major nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus. Our kelp extract is not a fertilizer, and it can be used along with your regular plant care products.
Kelp is not a pesticide, but it does repel insects and reduce the spread of the viruses caused by worms, phytoplasma, and bacterial diseases. Our Natural Home and Garden Plant Food is designed to be used in tandem with your existing plant care products, so keep doing what works. Add an application of our plant food every 5-7 days and see how your plant changes over time.
