Our Story
Plagued by skin ailments and sensitivities (including severe psoriasis, eczema and sensitivity to the sun) from an early age, founder Darron Hill spent his childhood and adolescence in pain and discomfort.
In his teens, Darron's condition worsened to the point where he was hospitalized for an 18-day body cast procedure to grow new skin. With continual medical treatment, Darron was able to get back to living but was still afflicted with daily symptoms.
In 1995, Darron started working with kelp and his skin quickly began to feel the benefits. His skin became softer, less dry, and not as irritated and itchy from the eczema. His sensitivity to the sun was greatly reduced as well.
Amazed by the results, Darron was inspired to share these benefits with people who suffer from similar health ailments and challenges. As Darron dug deeper, he realized that kelp had many health-promoting applications, not only in people but also animals and plants.
He founded Scotia Kelp to further his mission of sharing the benefits of kelp with the world.
